No Bust 21 is a dynamic blackjack variation, the main feature of which is that the player’s hand never busts. When the gambler’s and dealer’s hands bust, the round is considered a Push if the gambler’s hand is closer to 21 than the dealer’s.

No Bust 21 Rules

The gameplay of No Bust 21 does not significantly differ from the basic blackjack. The basic structure remains the same. Therefore, the gambler who wants to try playing No Bust 21 should first be acquainted with the regular game rules.

No Bust 21 uses a regular 52-card deck plus two joker cards added to create a 54-card deck. All the regular cards hold their expected values. The 2s through 9s are valued at their numeral rank, while 10s, Js, Qs, and Ks are valued at 10, and As are valued at either 1 or 11.

Here are the specific features of No Bust 21:

  • Jokers act as wild cards, meaning any hand with a single joker creates a 21 total. The best possible hand in this game is created by two jokers and is called a “natural.”
  • If the player holds a natural, he wins 2:1 on his money. However, if the dealer also shows a natural, the hand is deemed a push.
  • If the gambler holds an A and any 10-valued card, it is simply a 21 total. This hand ranks the same as any other run of cards totaling 21. The gambler does not receive any premium payout for making such a combination. This is a critical difference between No Bust 21 and regular blackjack variation, where making a blackjack combination provides a gambler with a premium payout of either 3:2 or 6:5.

Aside from “both bust” scenarios, No Bust 21 is played like regular blackjack. The player can hit or stand, trying to reach 21 or a total close to 21 or allowing the dealer to go bust.

Additional No Bust 21 rules:

  • The dealer cannot examine his hole card, which is only revealed after all players have completed their actions.
  • The dealer hits on a soft 17.
  • The player may split any paired two-card starting hand to form two new starting hands. This move costs an extra wager that equals the player’s ante bet.
  • The player cannot re-split when splitting produces another paired two-card starting hand.
  • The player may double down holding any two-card starting hand. This move costs an extra wager that equals the player’s ante bet.
  • The player may double down after splitting.
  • The player may surrender if he holds any two cards starting hand. The exception is when the dealer shows a joker as his up card. In such a case, all gamblers must stand for the rest of that hand.
