Birds of Paradise: Vela Gaming’s Crossbow Shooting Game

Birds of Paradise is a shooting game from Vela Gaming that puts you in the role of a crossbow archer. Released in 2019, it belongs to the arcade shooter genre that is very popular in Asian casinos, but it swaps the usual underwater fish for flying creatures, including birds, phoenixes and dragons. It mixes hands-on aiming with gambling, and the free demo above is a great way to get to grips with the controls.

How the Shooting Works

Each shot of your crossbow is a small wager. You choose a bet level, aim at the creatures crossing the screen and fire. Hitting a target can capture it and pay out its prize multiplier. A higher bet upgrades your crossbow, so it deals more damage per shot, but each shot also costs more. Rare creatures such as dragons and phoenixes are tougher and pay more, while common birds fall more easily for smaller prizes.

Whether a hit captures its target is decided randomly, so good aim keeps you involved but does not guarantee a win. The bet range and prize values are shown in the game’s help screen.

Single Player or Up to Four

You can play alone or in multiplayer mode with up to four players sharing the same screen of targets. Shared play adds a social element, as everyone fires at the same flock and big captures are visible to all.
