Aces and Faces Video Poker: Bonus Payouts for Aces and Picture Cards

Aces and Faces is a long-established video poker variant found in land-based casinos and online, and this version is available to play for free above. It is built on the familiar Jacks or Better structure but adds a twist to four-of-a-kind payouts: quads in aces, and quads in kings, queens or jacks, earn more than other four-of-a-kind hands. That small change gives the game its name and its distinct personality.

How a Hand Is Played

You start by choosing your stake and are dealt five cards. Hold the ones you want to keep, discard the rest, and draw replacements. Your final hand is paid according to the paytable shown on screen. A pair of jacks or better is typically the lowest winning hand, followed by two pair, three of a kind, straights, flushes and full houses, with the royal flush at the very top.

• Game type: single-hand draw video poker
• Base game: Jacks or Better rules
• Special payouts: four aces and four face cards
• Top hand: royal flush

What Changes in Strategy

For the most part, Aces and Faces strategy mirrors Jacks or Better. The main adjustment is that high cards, especially aces and picture cards, become a bit more valuable to hold because they can turn into bonus quads. Many players keep a strategy chart close by when learning, and the demo is the perfect place to practise without pressure. Even with perfect decisions, short-term results vary widely, so set a budget and treat strategy as a way to play well rather than a way to guarantee returns.

Who It Suits

Aces and Faces is a good choice for players who like games with an element of decision-making and want something slightly richer than plain Jacks or Better. Its pace is calm and its rules are transparent, which makes it popular with players who prefer thinking games to pure luck formats like slots.

Verdict: Aces and Faces is a classic video poker variant with a simple, rewarding twist on high-card quads. Practise in the free demo above until the holding decisions feel natural, then decide whether it deserves a place in your regular rotation.
